Program
The Global Politics Summer School China 2008 focuses on "China's Role in Global Politics" and will take place from August 16 to August 30, 2008 at Fudan University in Shanghai. “Europe and China in Global Politics – Joint Solutions or Competition?” serves as a theme throughout the program. The curriculum consists of five theory-based courses and two practice-oriented modules. The theory-based courses lend special attention to new concepts and sources of international power, risks and cooperation, including environmental policy and ideas of multi-level governance. The practice-oriented modules, meanwhile, provide an opportunity to explore the theories further using innovative teaching methods such as role plays and simulation games. The emphasis in these modules is on discussion and cooperation among the participants. In addition, a rich and varied extracurricular program includes a meeting with the head of the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai as well as a visit to the Shanghai branch of the German company Rittal. The program also offers excursions into the Shanghai region and the opportunity to explore German culture by attending a classical music concert and visiting the German beer tent at the Kunshan Beer Festival. Students who successfully complete the Global Politics Summer School China earn the equivalent of four credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and are awarded a joint certificate of participation from Fudan University and Freie Universität Berlin.
