Ulrich Menzel is the executive director of the Institute for Social Science (ISW) at TU Braunschweig and holds a Chair of International Relations and Comparative Governance. His areas of expertise are the theory and history of the international system, theory of development and north-south relations, international political economy as well as peace and conflict studies. In long-time research activities, Prof. Menzel has focused on strategies for overcoming under-development, the US politics in the regime of humanitarian intervention and the impact of Japan's economic rise. Currently, Prof. Menzel is working on a historical-comparative book on empire and hegemony.
